Discover the Beauty of Leather Tiles...

Leather, with a history dating back over 5000 years, was one of the first products early man ever produced.  Borne out of the instinct for survival, leather has has played a key role in man's evolution; through the middle ages, during the industrial revolution and to today where leather has become a luxury item symbolizing elegance and opulence.  Today, leather is used in ways not even imagined just a few short decades ago.

The leather used for Pelle Arte tiles is derived from the leather used for the soles of shoes.  It is called vegetable tanned leather.  Although modern machinery has made the production of this type of leather faster and more efficient, the basic process for making vegetable tanned leather has remained unchanged for hundreds of years.  Tannic acid found in the bark of certain trees, roots and nuts is the natural material used to produce vegetable tanned leather.  Veg-tan, as it is commonly called, is known for it’s inherent beige color and very firm and durable leather surface.  It is the ideal choice for tiles used in floor and wall coverings.

Recommended Uses:

Pelle Arte leather tiles are the hardest and most durable leather tiles on the market today.  Therefore, applications for their use are greatly expanded.  The only restriction of their use are locations where the tiles are likely to get wet.  Bathrooms, kitchen floors and entries from outdoor spaces are not recommended for leather tiles.  Occasional spills will not affect the tiles as their surface is sealed and waxed.  Also, pets with untrimmed claws can mark the waxed surface of the tiles requiring additional care and maintenance.

The most common uses for leather tiles are floors and walls in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, offices, retail spaces, lobbies and boardrooms.  Additional uses include backsplashes, paneled walls & doors, coffered ceilings and cabinet door inlays.
